PREPARE THE CARAMEL:
Place 1/2 cup of sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until melted and golden brown. Quickly pour into the bottom of the mold and spread evenly before it hardens.
FLAN MIXTURE:
In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until well combined. Gradually add the milk along with the vanilla. Mix gently until you obtain a smooth mixture.
